Sea Breeze Road
Sea Breeze Road
From JR Yamagawachi Station, walk through neatly divided mountainside rice fields to arrive at the village of Hakutaku. Pass through cedar and cypress forests, then enter groves of ubame oak. After crossing the mountain pass, arrive at Ooshima Observation Point, where the vast Pacific Ocean stretches out before you. Descend the mountain pass, cross the Sunline Road, and reach the small settlement of Mizuochi. Walk through clusters of wild camellias in paddy fields cradled by mountains to reach the small settlement of Nada. Soon, you arrive at the calm, sun-warmed fishing port of Furumugi or Sabi Beach. The ocean stretches out before you, with islands like Mugi-Ooshima, Tsushima, and Teba seeming close enough to touch. The Marine Park area is the highlight of Mugi-Ooshima and Tsushima Islands. Pass by the local fishing radio station and through groves of ubame oak to reach the town of Mugi.

Mugi-Ooshima IslandThis uninhabited island lies about 7 kilometers away from Mugi Harbor. In the same vein as Tsushima Island, Mugi-Ooshima Island is designated as part of the Marine Park Area. Beyond seaweed like sea fans, you can also spot reef-building corals in the waters here. Many tropical fish, such as anemone fish and neon damselfish, inhabit these waters, and when schools of them swim together, the sight is truly beautiful.
