Nagara Dam and Sakura Path

The Nagara Dam and Sakura Path is a 7.5 km scenic route from Shiio Hachiman Shrine to Sogisho, surrounded by lush nature. The best time for this walk is during the cherry blossom season in March and April. Although slightly hilly, it is an enjoyable three-hour mountain walk.

    Shiio Hachiman Shrine Forest

    Shiio Hachiman Shrine in Ayagawa Town is known for its mystical shrine forest. As its name suggests, there are many chinquapin trees, and because it is considered one of the largest Japanese chinquapin (Tsuburajii) pure forests in the prefecture, it has been designated as a Natural Monument. It is also a hidden local landmark that draws faith from the local community and serves as the starting point of the Shikoku route.

    Takayama Aviation Park

    Takayama Aviation Park in Ayagawa Town is a municipal park located on a hill 280 meters above sea level, west-southwest of Takamatsu Airport. Its biggest attraction is the thrilling sight of planes taking off right overhead from Takamatsu Airport's runway. The park features a jet aircraft display and playground equipment, and on Sundays, you can enjoy the local specialty, "Mochimugi Udon". At the back of the park sits Takayama Aviation Shrine, popular with students preparing for entrance exams as a guardian deity believed to help them succeed, and earning it the nickname "the god who prevents failed tests".

    Nagara Dam

    Nagara Dam is a multipurpose dam completed in 1953. Like Uchiba Dam in Shionoe Town, Takamatsu City, Nagara is an old dam and a pioneer of dams in the prefecture.
    The lakeshore is lined with cherry blossom trees, and with the wild cherry blossom trees on nearby hills, the area becomes a village of blossoms in early April.
    The artificial lake created by the dam, called Nagae Lake, is cherished as a scenic walking spot surrounded by rich nature.

    Mabuchi Daishido

    Mabuchi Daishido is a small temple located north of Nagara Dam along the Shikoku Pilgrimage Route. It is clear that local residents take good care of it.

    The Forest of Nishinomiya Shrine

    The Forest of Nishinomiya Shrine is a shrine grove located within the shrine grounds in Ayagawa Town. It has been designated a natural monument of Kagawa Prefecture.
    This approximately 40 year old mature forest is close to natural vegetation. Such a well preserved Shi (Chinquapin) secondary forest is rare in the prefecture. Moreover, this shrine grove is valuable for studying vegetation succession toward a climax forest(a forest that has finished maturing), making it scientifically important.

Special System to recognize The Roads of Shikoku travelers

Travelers who have completed a prefectural route
Under this system, a certificate is issued to everyone who has completed all the routes of the The Roads of Shikoku on foot in a single prefecture.
If you wish to receive this certificate, please take a photo of yourself (the applicant) at the designated photo checkpoints (the mark for photo checkpoints) along each route. After gathering the required photos for all the routes, write a simple comment on your thoughts regarding the route on each photo as well as your address, full name, age, and the dates on which the photos along the route were taken, and submit them to the representative for the prefecture where the route is found.
After reviewing your application, we will issue you a certificate for having completed the prefectural course.
Travelers who have completed all routes in Shikoku
If you have completed all the routes in the four prefectures of Shikoku, please submit your certificate for each of the four prefectures to the representative for any prefecture.
