Camellias and Fan Palm Trail

Camellias and Fan Palm Trail

This 9.9-kilometer coastal course stretches from Kubotsu Fishing Port to Cape Ashizuri, the southernmost point of Shikoku, offering travelers a full immersion in the breathtaking landscapes of Ashizuri-Uwakai National Park. Facing the vast Pacific Ocean, the cape is home to around 60,000 wild yabutsubaki camellia trees. Their crimson blossoms herald the arrival of spring. In February, when the camellias are in full bloom, the Ashizuri Camellia Festival draws large crowds of visitors. The yabutsubaki of Cape Ashizuri have been cherished for centuries. Camellia oil, extracted from their seeds, remains popular for its beauty benefits, especially for enhancing hair texture. From the Cape Ashizuri Observation Deck, take in a sweeping 270-degree panorama that unfolds before you. Watch powerful waves crash against sheer cliffs, while the endless horizon gives you a real sense of the Earth’s curvature.
